Official topic — The Last Days of the Third Age Translations [TLD Dev Team]

Well, hello there Polish M&B players, Swyter here, you may know me as the guy who ported TLD to Warband and for developing Star Wars Conquest.

We're about to release a new patch of TLD and some of the translations are lagging behind, so, to give it a push we've decided to be closer to our international community across the globe and give support and help.

Particularly, Spanish (my native language), French, German and Polish. Here's a dynamic chart showing the general progress until now.




If you want to colaborate, just go to our Transifex project, login with your Google/Twitter/Facebook account or create a new one there, join the project (doesn't need confirmation, it's instantaneous) and work right away from your browser, it has nifty things like built-in glossary, machine translation and suggestions. We care about translators!

If somebody wants to act as coordinator I can set the privileges, just reply here and we'll sort it out. As you can see, I've imported the latest public version, but still needs some work as it's at 83% at the moment. Also, I want to be clear, these translations are going into the official package.

I've signed in to see how this works(never seen this site before), and it looks quite intuitive and seems to be much better tool than normal text editor, so I think I might use it for other mods, too. :P Anyway I'll help in translating.
BTW these already translated files... are they 100% correct or need a recheck?

Cool. I think they are okay, we got them from here. I kind of remember that there were two different Polish translations, that I ended up merging by date.

I forgot to tell you that one can also download the text files, work offline and upload them later by using the web interface, so it's pretty flexible. And I know many old school translators that prefer to work that way.

In Transifex there are three user levels per language; translators, reviewers and coordinators. And two workflow passes, one for translating and suggesting and other for reviewing, which locks the strings down, so that only reviewers and coordinators can edit them. Anyway, test it out and tell me.

I've used it to translate a good deal of the Spanish version of the mod and has worked well for me so far. Notice you can sort the sections by priority (the hourglass symbol), by number of total strings, and number or remaining strings. It's better to start with smaller sections, as they get sent automatically to the dev repository once they reach 100%. Better to have fewer files but completed than many half done files.

Great, we plan to release before the end of summer. But I'm also preparing automated patch builds so that people can test early and often, and yes, Crowdin is very similar, but it's a bit more restrictive than Transifex.

Also, a bit off-topic, but I'm currently reading the Geralt of Rivia books, and they are some of the best fantasy writing I've read in years, so props to that Polish author.

Haha, that's cool, I wonder how it is to read a slavic-albion inspired fantasy as a Spaniard :P Anyway, I hope the translation is good and you have fun reading it :)

The translator did a truly fantastic work, I've read that it took him a good while to finish, and that people hated the delay caused back them.

But sometimes when I'm reading it (book five at the moment) I can't believe how he managed to pull it off, all of the small intricacies and subtle humor are wonderfully and skillfully translated. The way that different characters talk depending on their origins, race, home country and culture, how he managed to convert it to the way of talking and mannerisms of several parts of Spain, which has a very rich set of languages and dialects.

It's great. And quality shows off. Amazing source material and translation. Really, I'm enjoying it a lot, fearing that the series ends up too quickly.

Also, things are getting better and better with every new book and that's a rarity nowadays, I like how he subverts Tolkien's legacy turning cliches around and laughing directly at the genre while telling an interesting story, his fleshed out characters and occasional external points of view are probably the best part of all. How everything has depth, even for six second characters, sometimes they make you feel lucky for living the adventures and misadventures in first person, when you heard about Geralt from the perspective of a random person.

I'll stop here because this is going to end up as a full fledged review out of excitement. I'm going to read, keep me updated of the progress in Transifex!
